La Dolce Vita Orient Express: Venice & Tuscany in Winter

It is a 3-day, 2-night round trip that starts and finishes in Rome, calling at Bolgheri in Tuscany, then Venice, then Florence. Both nights are spent on board in your cabin. Because it returns to Rome, you only need one city for your arrival and departure flights.

A private transfer brings you from your hotel or the airport to Roma Ostiense station, where the La Dolce Vita lounge offers a calm place to wait before boarding. The train leaves late in the morning and a gourmet lunch created by three-Michelin-starred Chef Heinz Beck is served on board. In the early afternoon you arrive at Bolgheri.

Bolgheri is a small medieval village set in the Tuscan countryside, known for its cypress-lined roads, its surrounding vineyards and its unhurried atmosphere. It is the kind of place that rewards slow wandering rather than a checklist of sights. You can explore at your own pace or pick from curated a la carte experiences arranged locally.

The second day is given over to Venice. The train reaches Venezia Santa Lucia in the morning and a private transfer takes you into the heart of La Serenissima, leaving you the afternoon among canals, palaces and reflections on the water. You explore independently or choose an a la carte experience, then reboard in the evening for dinner in the Restaurant Car.

On the third morning you have breakfast in your cabin or the Restaurant Car as the Tuscan landscape passes, then arrive in Florence, where local guides welcome you. You can take in the cathedral, the historic piazzas, the quiet streets and the river views on your own, or choose a curated experience suited to your interests. As the afternoon light softens you return on board and the train continues south to Rome.

The departures fall in the colder half of the year, when Bolgheri, Venice and Florence are quieter and the light is at its most atmospheric. Venice in particular is far less crowded outside the summer months. Pack a warm coat and waterproof shoes, since you are on foot in all three places.

Yes. A cabin can be taken for sole use at a single-occupancy fare, which is higher than the per-person sharing rate because the whole cabin comes out of inventory. The rate for each departure is shown on this page. Contact us and we will confirm the single fare and current availability.

The fare covers your cabin on board, all meals with menus curated by three-Michelin-starred Chef Heinz Beck, selected beverages, the off-train excursions described in the itinerary, live entertainment in the Bar Car and a dedicated cabin steward. Once you have boarded, there is very little else to pay for.

Travel to and from Rome is not included, nor are personal expenses, gratuities or travel insurance. Optional a la carte experiences in Bolgheri, Venice or Florence are paid separately when you select them. Anything not expressly listed in the itinerary lies outside the fare.

Yes: breakfast, lunch and dinner are served on board and included in the fare, with menus curated by three-Michelin-starred Chef Heinz Beck around seasonal regional ingredients. A deposit of 30 percent of the tour price confirms your cabin and is non-refundable. The balance is due 125 days before departure, and bookings made within 125 days of departure are payable in full at the time of booking. Your written confirmation shows the exact amounts and the dates they fall due.

Yes. Reduced rates apply for children under 5 and for children aged 5 up to 12, with the age taken at the date of departure. Children share the cabin with the adults travelling with them, so the cabin category sets how comfortably a family fits. Send us the ages and we will quote the exact total.

Departures run from 9 December 2026 through to 17 November 2027, with six dates currently on sale. Each is listed on this page with its own fare and cabin availability. With only a handful of departures a year and very few cabins per train, early booking matters.

Flights are not included. Rome Fiumicino is the usual long-haul gateway and the train departs from Rome Ostiense, where the lounge welcomes you before boarding. We recommend arriving in Rome at least a day before departure so that a flight delay cannot cost you the journey. You return to Rome Ostiense at the end, so onward flights are straightforward.

It is a mix. Local assistants meet the train and, in Florence, local guides welcome you to the city, but the time itself is largely yours to use as you wish. Curated a la carte experiences are offered at each stop for travellers who want structure or deeper access, and these are booked and paid for separately.

Each stop is explored on foot: Bolgheri is a small village with uneven lanes, Venice means bridges and steps, and Florence's historic centre is cobbled.
