Classic Danube River Cruise: 7-Night Vienna Round-Trip

It is a 7-night round-trip Danube cruise from Vienna aboard the MS CruceNova, sailing between the imperial capitals of the Danube. Meals, guided shore excursions and an English-speaking cruise manager are included, and fares are per person in US dollars.

From Vienna the ship calls at Durnstein, Melk, Linz, Bratislava, Budapest and Esztergom before returning to Vienna. That covers Austria's Wachau Valley, the capital of Upper Austria, and the capitals of Slovakia and Hungary.

Boarding starts at 4:00 PM on Day 1 at Handelskai Pier in Vienna. After settling in and a welcome gathering, you can spend the evening in Vienna before your first night on board. The ship stays in Vienna into Day 2.

Day 2 includes a panoramic city tour taking in the Opera House, Parliament, the Town Hall, the Hofburg Palace and other landmarks. The afternoon is free to explore, and the ship sails around midnight towards the Wachau Valley.

Both are on Day 3. First you explore Durnstein, a medieval village with castle ruins above the river. The ship then cruises through the Wachau Valley to Melk, home to the magnificent Benedictine abbey overlooking the Danube.

Day 4 is spent in Linz, the lively capital of Upper Austria. You can stroll its historic streets, admire the Baroque architecture or simply enjoy the riverside atmosphere before the ship sails on towards Bratislava.

On Day 5 an included guided walking tour of Slovakia's capital takes in St. Martin's Cathedral, Michael's Gate, the National Theater, the Old Town Hall and Bratislava Castle. The old town is compact and easy to explore on foot.

Day 6 includes a city tour of Budapest, one of Europe's most beautiful capitals, with stops such as Heroes' Square and the Parliament Building. Esztergom, with its great basilica on the Danube bend, is also on the itinerary before the ship heads back to Vienna.

There are four categories on the MS CruceNova, all with a French balcony: Category D on the Middle Deck aft, Category C on the Middle Deck, Category B on the Upper Deck aft, and Category A on the Upper Deck. Every stateroom has a private bathroom, individually controlled air conditioning and river views.

The lead fare is for Category D. Category C adds about US$60 per person, Category B about US$300 per person, and Category A about US$660 per person. The exact fare for each category and departure is shown on this page.

Fares start from about US$2,039 per person sharing, in Category D. Port and tourist taxes and a fuel surcharge are added on top. The exact fare for each departure is shown on this page.

A single supplement of 50% of the per-person rate applies in Categories D and C, and 75% in Categories B and A. Single fares start from about US$3,058 in Category D, and the exact single price for your date is shown on this page.

The fare includes your cabin, and full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner) throughout. It also covers welcome and captain's events, guided shore excursions as listed in the itinerary (such as the Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest tours), an English-speaking cruise manager, onboard entertainment, port charges, and Wi-Fi where available.

International flights, travel insurance, gratuities and personal expenses are not included. Drinks outside the included selection and optional excursions are also extra. Port and tourist taxes of US$95 per person and a fuel surcharge of US$65 per person are added to the fare.

Flights are not included. Because the cruise starts and ends in Vienna, a round-trip ticket to Vienna is the simplest option. Boarding at Handelskai Pier opens at 4:00 PM on Day 1, so arriving that morning or the day before gives you a relaxed start.

A 25% deposit secures your cabin, and the balance is due 65 days before departure. Port and tourist taxes and the fuel surcharge are included in your invoice.

Children are booked in two age bands, based on age at departure: under 5, and from 5 up to (but not including) 12. Child fares are confirmed on request, so tell us the ages and your preferred sailing and we will quote.
