Legends of the Rhine & Bavaria River Cruise: Amsterdam to Vienna, 10 Nights

It is a 10-night river cruise from Amsterdam to Vienna aboard the MS CruceNova. It links the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers across the heart of Europe. Meals, guided shore excursions and an English-speaking cruise manager are included, and fares are per person in US dollars.

After leaving Amsterdam, the ship calls at Cologne, Rudesheim, Miltenberg, Wurzburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg, Regensburg and Passau, and ends in Vienna. The route takes you from the Netherlands, through the Rhineland and Franconia, across Bavaria and into Austria.

Boarding at the Amsterdam river port starts at 3:00 PM on Day 1. After you settle into your cabin, there is a welcome gathering with your fellow travellers, and the ship leaves Amsterdam at 6:00 PM. The welcome dinner and first night are on board.

On Day 2 the ship spends the morning cruising the Rhine and reaches Cologne at about 5:00 PM. There is an included guided walking tour of the Old Town and the Gothic cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site just steps from the river. The tour needs a minimum number of participants. The ship leaves at 10:30 PM for the Romantic Rhine.

The ship reaches Rudesheim at about noon on Day 3. The town sits in the UNESCO-listed Upper Middle Rhine Valley, and from the dock it is an easy walk to the historic centre and the lively Drosselgasse lane with its shops and festive atmosphere. The ship sails at 7:30 PM towards the Main River.

After the Rhine, the ship turns onto the Main River at Mainz and follows it through Franconia via Miltenberg, Wurzburg and Bamberg. It then uses the Main-Danube Canal, passing Nuremberg, to reach the Danube at Regensburg. From there it sails downstream through Passau to Vienna.

The Bavarian and Franconian part of the cruise calls at Miltenberg, Wurzburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg, Regensburg and Passau. You get medieval old towns, the Bamberg and Regensburg UNESCO-listed centres, and Passau, where three rivers meet. Guided shore excursions are included as set out in the itinerary.

There are four categories on the MS CruceNova, all with a French balcony: Category D on the Middle Deck aft, Category C on the Middle Deck, Category B on the Upper Deck aft, and Category A on the Upper Deck. Every cabin has a private bathroom, individually controlled air conditioning and river views.

The lead fare is for Category D. Category C adds about US$60 per person, Category B about US$300 per person, and Category A about US$400 per person. The exact fare for each category and departure is shown on this page.

Fares start from about US$2,999 per person sharing, in Category D. Port and tourist taxes and a fuel surcharge are added on top. The exact fare for each departure is shown on this page.

For sole use of a cabin, a single supplement of 50% of the per-person rate applies in Categories D and C, and 75% in Categories B and A. Single fares start from about US$4,498 in Category D, and the exact single price for your date is shown on this page.

The fare includes your cabin, and full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner) throughout. It also covers welcome and captain's events, guided shore excursions as listed in the itinerary, an English-speaking cruise manager, onboard entertainment, port charges, and Wi-Fi where available.

International flights, travel insurance, gratuities and personal expenses are not included. Drinks outside the included selection and optional excursions are also extra. Port and tourist taxes of US$120 per person and a fuel surcharge of US$90 per person are added to the fare.

Flights are not included. Most travellers book an open-jaw ticket: fly into Amsterdam and home from Vienna. As boarding starts at 3:00 PM and the ship sails at 6:00 PM on Day 1, arriving the day before gives you a comfortable buffer.

A 25% deposit secures your cabin, and the balance is due 65 days before departure. We include port and tourist taxes and the fuel surcharge in your invoice, so the final amount is clear from the start.

Children are booked in two age bands, based on age at departure: under 5, and from 5 up to (but not including) 12. Child fares are confirmed on request, so tell us your children's ages and your preferred date and we will quote.

Yes. An English-speaking cruise manager sails with the ship, and the included guided shore excursions are offered in English. Optional excursions can be added at extra cost if you want to see more in a particular port.
