Romantic Moselle River Cruise: 7-Night Dusseldorf Round-Trip

It is a 7-night round-trip cruise on the Rhine and Moselle from Dusseldorf aboard the MS Cruce Rio. It visits the storybook villages and castles of the Moselle Valley. Meals, guided shore excursions and an English-speaking cruise manager are included, and fares are per person in US dollars.

From Dusseldorf the ship calls at Koblenz, Cochem, Trier, Saarburg, Bernkastel-Kues and Alken before returning to Dusseldorf. The route follows the winding Moselle through some of Germany's most picturesque riverside towns.

Boarding in Dusseldorf starts at 4:00 PM on Day 1. After you settle into your outside cabin, there is free time to explore Dusseldorf's Old Town, shopping streets and Rhine promenade. In the evening there is a welcome gathering followed by dinner on board.

On Day 2 you wake up in Koblenz, one of Germany's oldest cities, where the Rhine and Moselle meet at the German Corner. An included guided walking tour covers the historic centre and its Roman heritage. In the afternoon the ship cruises to Cochem, where it docks overnight.

Cochem is often called one of the Moselle's most beautiful towns. It has cobbled lanes lined with colourful half-timbered houses, and Reichsburg Castle sits high above the valley. Day 3 is spent there, with time to see Market Square, St. Martin's Church and the riverfront cafes.

Trier was founded by the Romans and is often described as Germany's oldest city. It is famous for its Roman monuments, including the Porta Nigra gate, which are listed together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the furthest point up the Moselle on this cruise.

The MS Cruce Rio has three categories. Category C is on the Lower Deck with a fixed window. Category B is on the Middle Deck with a panorama window that opens. Category A is on the Upper Deck with a French balcony. All are outside cabins with a private bathroom, individually controlled air conditioning and river views.

A single supplement of 50% of the per-person rate applies in Category C, and 75% in Categories B and A. Single fares start from about US$3,598 in Category C, and the exact single price for your date is shown on this page.

The fare includes your cabin, and full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner) throughout. It also covers welcome and captain's events, guided shore excursions as listed in the itinerary (such as the Koblenz walking tour), an English-speaking cruise manager, onboard entertainment, port charges, and Wi-Fi where available.

International flights, travel insurance, gratuities and personal expenses are not included. Drinks outside the included selection and optional excursions are also extra. Port and tourist taxes of US$95 per person and a fuel surcharge of US$45 per person are added to the fare.

Flights are not included. The cruise starts and ends in Dusseldorf, so a round-trip ticket to Dusseldorf is the simplest option. Boarding opens at 4:00 PM on Day 1, so arriving that morning or the day before works well.

A 25% deposit secures your cabin, and the balance is due 65 days before departure. Port and tourist taxes and the fuel surcharge are included in your invoice.

Children are booked in two age bands, based on age at departure: under 5, and from 5 up to (but not including) 12. Child fares are confirmed on request, so tell us the ages and your preferred sailing and we will quote.

Yes. The ship docks close to the town centres, so places like Cochem, Koblenz and Bernkastel-Kues are easy to explore on foot. Streets are often cobbled and some castle paths are steep, so bring comfortable walking shoes. Relaxing on board is always an option too.

Yes. After the Koblenz visit on Day 2, the ship docks overnight in Cochem, which gives you the evening and all of Day 3 to enjoy the town at a relaxed pace, including a visit up to Reichsburg Castle.
