La Dolce Vita Orient Express: From Venice to Rome via Florence

It is a two-day, one-night one-way journey. The train leaves Venice in the evening, runs south through the night, gives you the second day in Florence, and then continues through Tuscany to finish in Rome that same evening.

A private water taxi transfer brings you to Venezia Santa Lucia station, which stands directly on the Grand Canal, so you arrive at the platform by water. Boarding is in the evening, and the train departs towards Tuscany once guests are settled in their cabins.

You settle into your private cabin as Venice slips away, then dine in the Restaurant Car from a menu created by a three-Michelin-starred chef. Later the Bar Car takes over, with live piano and vocals accompanying the journey south through the night.

Florence fills the middle of day two. You arrive in the morning and return on board in the afternoon, which gives you a solid half-day in the city. You can explore at your own pace or take one of the curated experiences covering both the famous sights and the quieter corners.

The historic centre is compact and walkable, so the cathedral and its dome, the Piazza della Signoria and the Ponte Vecchio all sit within a short radius of each other. If you want to go inside a major gallery, book that ahead of time, because queues can consume the time you have.

In Rome, after an afternoon running south through the Tuscan landscape as the light softens and the horizons open out. You disembark in the Eternal City, and most guests add nights there afterwards, which we are happy to arrange along with your transfer.

Deluxe Cabin and Cabin Suite are offered. The train has 12 Deluxe cabins, 18 suites and one La Dolce Vita Suite in total, all en-suite and served by a dedicated steward, with interiors drawn from Italian design of the 1960s. Current fares by category are shown on this page.

Fares start from about EUR 2,890 per person based on two guests sharing a cabin, which makes this the most accessible route in the collection. Prices vary by cabin category and date, and the exact fare for each departure is shown on this page.

Included are your cabin for the night, all meals on board with menus curated by three-Michelin-starred chef Heinz Beck, selected beverages including drinks served with meals, the off-train experiences described in the itinerary, live entertainment in the Bar Car and dedicated cabin steward service.

Travel to Venice and onward from Rome is not part of the fare, nor are personal expenses, gratuities, travel insurance, optional curated experiences or anything not expressly listed in the itinerary. Hotel nights at either end can be quoted separately with private transfers.

Spring and autumn are the most rewarding: Florence is comfortable to walk, the Tuscan countryside is at its best from the windows, and the crowds are thinner than in summer. Winter departures are quieter and atmospheric but give you fewer daylight hours in the city.

Yes, on request and with a supplement, because the headline fare assumes two people sharing. Single-use cabins are limited in number, so ask early for the date you want and we will confirm the current rate before you commit to anything.

A deposit of 30 percent of the tour price confirms your cabin and is non-refundable. The balance is due 125 days before departure, and bookings made within 125 days of departure are payable in full at the time of booking. Your written confirmation shows the exact amounts and the dates they fall due.

Yes, in two bands, under 5 and 5 to 12, with the age taken at the departure date rather than the booking date. The cabins are compact and the tone on board is adult, so it suits older children. Talk to us before booking as a family and we will advise.

Only in Florence, and only as much as you choose. The centre is flat but paved in stone and closed to most traffic, so you are on foot for the time you are there. Comfortable shoes make the half-day far more enjoyable than smart ones.
