Cocora Valley Day Tour & Salento
- Visit Cocora Valley, a natural landscape located in the Central Andean Mountains, at Quindío. Here is the wax palm of Quindio (Ceroxylon quindiense), highest in the world and tree national ensign as well as a variety of flora and fauna, many of them endangered, protected under national natural park status.
- You will receive a warm welcome drink (Canelazo) and then an specialized eco-guide makes an introduction to the natural reserve of Cocora and a walking through the cloud forest where the biodiversity of fauna and flora can be seen, you will experience the ritual of Quindio wax palm, in which the eco-guide tells the story of how the aborigines worship them and then continues with the experience of seedlings palm planting. All cancellation, change, or update requests must be submitted in writing by email to travel@palacetours.com. Please allow at least 48 hours (and in some cases longer) for us to review, confirm, and process the request and advise any applicable fees. A cancellation, change, or update takes effect only once we have received and processed the request, and we will confirm the outcome to you once it has been processed. Cancellation timeframes and the applicable fee are calculated by reference to the local time and normal business hours at the destination where the tour is provided; a request received outside those business hours (including evenings, weekends, and public holidays at the destination) is treated as received on the next business day at the destination, and a further processing period of at least 48 hours (and in some cases longer) then applies before the request takes effect.
Guests need to add 3 business days to the above time frames. An administration fee of 15% on any monies paid by the client will be charged prior to refund.

The Coffee Experience is a 4-day, 3-night stay in Colombia's coffee region. Day 1 is arrival and check-in, day 2 is the Cocora Valley and Salento tour, day 3 is a coffee plantation visit, and day 4 is check-out with a transfer to the airport.
The tour is based in Colombia's famous coffee triangle. You stay three nights in one selected zone, Risaralda, Quindio or Caldas, and your hotel must be within that zone. The Cocora Valley, near Salento in Quindio, is the natural highlight of the programme.
The Cocora Valley is a natural landscape in Colombia's Central Andes, home to the Quindio wax palm, the tallest palm tree in the world and Colombia's national tree. It is protected parkland with cloud forest and a wide variety of flora and fauna, many of them endangered.
On day 2 a specialised eco-guide introduces the Cocora natural reserve and leads a walk through the cloud forest to see its biodiversity. You take part in the ritual of the Quindio wax palm, in which the guide tells how the indigenous peoples worshipped these trees, and the tour also includes the town of Salento.
On day 3 an expert introduces you to the world of Colombian coffee: its preparation, roasting, quality characteristics and the properties that set the best coffees apart. You taste various coffee preparations, tour the plantations, see the pickers' work and learn about the wet processing that characterises Colombian coffee.
The coffee plantation activity lasts about 3 to 4 hours, plus travel time to the farm. The visit is to a coffee farm near the city where you are staying, so you have the rest of the day free to relax at your hotel or explore nearby.
The tour includes 3 nights' accommodation in your selected zone (Risaralda, Quindio or Caldas), daily breakfast, transfers in and out within that zone, the Cocora Valley and Salento tour, and a visit to a coffee farm in the city where you are staying.
Personal expenses such as minibar, laundry and phone calls, and any services not specified in the rate, are not included. Flights to and from the coffee region are also not part of the package. Lunches and dinners are at your own choice, as only daily breakfast is included.
The transfers and the coffee hacienda tour apply to one city and zone. If you wish to move to another city in the region, an extra charge applies. Contact a travel specialist before booking if you would like to split your stay, and they will quote the additional cost.

The Cocora Valley day includes a guided walk through cloud forest, and the coffee farm visit involves walking through the plantation. Neither is described as strenuous, but comfortable walking shoes and a moderate level of fitness will help you enjoy the experience. Tell us about any mobility needs when you book.
You arrive in the coffee region on day 1 and are transferred to your hotel within your selected zone, and on day 4 you are transferred from the hotel to the airport. Flights are not included, and a travel specialist can advise which airport works best for the zone you choose.
