PAYMENT TERMS:
15% of total tour cost due at the time of booking
85% or balance no later than 35 days prior to tour departure date
CANCELLATION FEES:
Up to 30 days before departure: refund less 15% official tour price.
Between 30 and 15 days: refund less 25% of the total.
Between 14 and 5 days: refund less 50% of the total.
Between 4 and 1 day(s): refund less 80% of the total.
Less than 24 hours or failure to turn up: No refund, 100% of the total is payable.
Since these are international terms an additional 5 days will be added in order to process refunds.
An additional 5% Administrative fee will be charged from Palace Tours against refunds. All cancellation fees and administrative fees is applicable for FULL Tour price before coupons.
All cancellation, change, or update requests must be submitted in writing by email to travel@palacetours.com. Please allow at least 48 hours (and in some cases longer) for us to review, confirm, and process the request and advise any applicable fees. A cancellation, change, or update takes effect only once we have received and processed the request, and we will confirm the outcome to you once it has been processed. Cancellation timeframes and the applicable fee are calculated by reference to the local time and normal business hours at the destination where the tour is provided; a request received outside those business hours (including evenings, weekends, and public holidays at the destination) is treated as received on the next business day at the destination, and a further processing period of at least 48 hours (and in some cases longer) then applies before the request takes effect.
The above times are based on Spain time. In order to provide enough time for processing cancellation, guests need to add 3 business days to the above timeframes.

Frequently Asked Questions & Tips
It is a 2-night, 3-day rail journey. It starts in the afternoon of day 1 at Bilbao's La Concordia station and finishes in Leon on day 3 at about 16:00, after a tour of the city and free time for lunch.
Luggage check-in is at 14:00 at La Concordia station in Bilbao, and the whole group is welcomed on board at 15:00. After you settle into your compartment the train sets off towards Espinosa de los Monteros.
The train runs from Bilbao to Espinosa de los Monteros in the Las Merindades area of Burgos province, then on to Mataporquera and Cistierna, and finally San Feliz. Coach excursions from the train visit Frias and the Tobera Waterfall, the Romanesque sights of Palencia and the Roman villa of La Olmeda, ending with the city of Leon.
After leaving Bilbao, the group takes a coach to visit the town of Frias and the Tobera Waterfall. Dinner and the first night are then spent on board at Espinosa de los Monteros, a town in the Las Merindades region of Burgos province.
From Mataporquera a coach takes you along Palencia's Romanesque Route, part of the Camino de Santiago, visiting Carrion de los Condes, Fromista and Saldana. The day also includes the Canal of Castile and the Romanesque Church of San Martin, with free time for lunch.
La Olmeda is a Roman villa site in Palencia known for its magnificent collection of mosaics. It is visited on the afternoon of day 2, after the Romanesque towns, before the group rejoins the train for dinner and the night at Cistierna.
On day 3 the train takes you to San Feliz, and a coach continues to Leon for a tour of the old town, the Basilica of San Isidoro and the Cathedral. Free time and lunch follow, and the journey ends at about 16:00.
Both nights are spent on board El Expreso de La Robla: the first at Espinosa de los Monteros and the second at Cistierna. The train is parked at night, and breakfast is served on board each morning as the train moves to the next stop.
A buffet breakfast is served on board each morning and dinner is included on both evenings, with beverages at meal times. The touring days also set aside free time around lunch in the towns visited; the exact meal plan for your departure is confirmed with your booking.
Sightseeing is done by coach from the train, with guided walks in the towns, at the Tobera Waterfall and around Leon's old town and Cathedral. Comfortable shoes are all you need; there are no long hikes on this itinerary.
Yes. An accompanying guide travels with the group throughout, the group sightseeing tours by coach are included as per the itinerary, and admission fees to the places visited in the programme are covered by the fare.
Flights, travel insurance and visa fees, personal items such as laundry and souvenirs, hotel nights before or after the journey, and anything not listed as included are extra. We can add hotel nights in Bilbao or Leon to your booking on request.
Fares start from about EUR 1,550 per person sharing a double compartment (roughly USD 1,778), and single occupancy starts from about USD 3,039. The exact fare for each departure is shown on this page.

A deposit of 15% of the fare secures your compartment, and the balance is due 35 days before departure. Children are priced by their age at departure in two bands, 0-5 and 5-11.
Transport to Bilbao and onward from Leon is not included. Aim to be in Bilbao by early afternoon for the 14:00 luggage check-in, ideally arriving the day before, and allow for the trip ending around 16:00 in Leon when booking onward travel. We can arrange hotels and connections at both ends.
