Britannic Explorer Luxury Train Journey: Cornwall

It is a 4-day, 3-night round trip from London Victoria. The train departs in the afternoon on day 1 and arrives back at London Victoria in the early morning of day 4, after a farewell breakfast as it leaves the East Somerset Railway.

Leaving London, the train heads through England's western countryside, then follows Devon's south coast on the Riviera Line past Teignmouth, skirts Dartmoor to Plymouth and enters Cornwall, passing St Austell and Truro on the way to Penzance. Day 3 is spent around Lostwithiel and Fowey before the train crosses to Bruton in Somerset for the final evening.

Day 2 is a scenic travel day into Cornwall, known locally as Kernow. After a lie-in and brunch, or an early visit to the Wellness Suite, you ride the Riviera Line along the Devon coast, pass Dartmoor and Plymouth, and continue past St Austell and Truro towards Penzance in the far west of the county.

On day 3 the train visits the Lostwithiel area and the seaside town of Fowey. The Guest Experience team can arrange a coastal hike along the famous Hall Walk, a private boat tour along the shore, or other local excursions, so you can shape the day around your interests.

On the last evening the train arrives in Bruton, Somerset, for an after-hours private tour of a celebrated contemporary art gallery, followed by a gala dinner at the gallery's Italian restaurant. The gala dinner is included in the fare.

Yes. Walks such as the Hall Walk in Fowey are optional, and the Guest Experience team offers gentler choices like a boat tour or a relaxed visit to the town. You can also simply enjoy the coastline from the train and the Wellness Suite.

There are three choices: the Grand Suite, a Suite with a double bed, and a Suite with twin beds. Double and Twin Suites each have about 7.8 sq m of space and an en-suite with shower; your steward converts the daytime seating into beds each evening. The Grand Suite is the most spacious option.

As the train leaves London on day 1, guests are served a Cornish afternoon tea made with ingredients from Cornwall's larder, complete with scones, jam and cream and the friendly debate over which goes on first. It sets the tone for the food-focused journey ahead.

Mornings are unhurried: rise early for a first-light moment on the platform, enjoy a lie-in and brunch in the dining car, or book a treatment in the Wellness Suite. The train also has elegant dining carriages and an Observation Car with large windows for the coastal views.

The Cornwall journey covers the Riviera Line, Penzance, Fowey and the Bruton gala over three nights, returning to London on day 4. The 6-night Cornwall and Wales itinerary follows the same first three nights, then continues from London into Wales for Pembrokeshire, the Welsh valleys and Machynlleth.

A 25% deposit confirms your cabin, and the balance is due 125 days before departure. If you book within 125 days of departure, the full fare is payable at the time of booking.
