Venice Simplon-Orient-Express: Vienna to Paris (Prague Route)

You board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in Vienna, settle into your cabin or suite, dine in the restored dining cars as the train sets off across Europe, and arrive in Paris the following day after breakfast on board. The name distinguishes this Vienna to Paris routing, which travels by way of Prague, from other services between the two cities. The train follows a path through central Europe overnight rather than taking the most direct line. It runs one way, Vienna to Paris. Your travel to Vienna beforehand and onward from Paris afterwards are arranged separately, which leaves you free to build city stays at either end. Five categories are available: Historic Cabin, Suite - Double, Suite - Twin, Grand Suite and L'Observatoire. All are within meticulously restored 1920s carriages and all come with steward service throughout. L'Observatoire is the most distinctive category offered on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express and sits at the top of the range alongside the Grand Suites, well above the Historic Cabins on which the lead-in fare is based. It is released in very small numbers on each departure. Contact us early if you would like it, and we will confirm availability and the current fare for your date.

One night on board is included, along with the table d'hote dining served in the restored dining cars, afternoon tea, a welcome beverage, on-board entertainment and steward service throughout the journey. Everything described as included in the itinerary is covered, so the on-board programme requires no further payment.

Travel to Vienna and onward from Paris is not included, nor are hotels at either end, personal expenses, gratuities, travel insurance or anything not expressly listed in the itinerary. Items ordered outside the included dining programme are settled on board before you disembark. We can quote separately for hotels and private transfers in both cities.

Dinner is a table d'hote menu served in the restored 1920s dining cars, and on a one-night journey it is the centrepiece of the experience, beginning shortly after the train leaves Vienna. Breakfast follows the next morning before arrival in Paris. Tell us about any dietary requirements at the time of booking so they can be prepared for in advance.

Bar Car '3674' takes its name from the carriage's own number and is where guests gather before and after dinner for drinks, live entertainment and conversation. On a one-night journey it is where most of the evening is spent. It is among the most recognisable spaces on any train in Europe.

Your steward converts the daytime arrangement into sleeping accommodation each evening while you are at dinner or in the Bar Car, and turns it back in the morning. The Historic Cabins are the classic 1920s compartments, while the Suites offer more space and additional facilities. Every category on this journey has a dedicated steward on call throughout.

Departures currently on sale run from 22 August 2027 through to 20 December 2027, with ten dates open at the time of writing. Every date and its fare by accommodation category appear in the booking list on this page. The December dates in particular sell early, so contact us as soon as you have a date in mind.

Fares are quoted per person based on two people sharing a cabin or suite, and vary by category and by departure date. Rather than publish a figure that may move, we show the exact fare for each departure in the booking list on this page and confirm the final amount in writing before any payment is taken.

Yes. A single occupancy fare is published and is shown alongside the sharing fare on this page. Because a solo guest occupies the whole cabin or suite, the single fare is higher than the per person sharing rate. Space for solo travellers is limited on each departure, so early contact is worthwhile.

A deposit of 15 percent of the booking value confirms your accommodation, with the balance due 61 days before departure. Bookings made within 61 days of the departure date are payable in full at the time of booking. The exact deposit, balance and due date appear on your written confirmation.

Child fares are based on the child's age on the departure date, in bands of 0 to under 5 years and 5 to under 12 years; guests aged 12 and over pay the adult fare. The journey is formal in character with a long dinner and an early night. Tell us the ages in your party and we will confirm fares and the accommodation that works.

Travel to Vienna is not included, so you can arrive by air or rail as you prefer. We recommend arriving the day before rather than on the morning of departure, and we can arrange hotel nights and private transfers in the city. The exact boarding station and time for your departure are confirmed in your travel documents.

Breakfast is served on board before arrival, and the journey concludes in Paris, where onward travel is yours to arrange. We can quote for a transfer to your Paris hotel or the airport, and for hotel nights in the city afterwards. Please avoid booking a tight onward flight, as arrival times can vary slightly.

Yes. Hotels are not part of this fare, but we arrange them regularly and can quote for stays in Vienna before the train and Paris afterwards, along with transfers between hotel, station and airport. Because this is a one-night journey, most guests build several nights into at least one of the two cities.
