Frequently Asked Questions & Tips
It is a 1-night journey. You board in Paris, settle into your cabin or suite, dine in the restored 1920s dining cars as the train heads east across Europe, and arrive in Prague the following day after breakfast on board. It is one of the train's shorter itineraries and a popular introduction to it.
It runs one way, Paris to Prague. Travel to Paris beforehand and onward from Prague afterwards are arranged separately, which leaves you free to spend time in either city. Many guests pair the train with several nights in Prague at the end, and we are happy to quote for hotels and transfers there.
Arriving by the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express turns the travel itself into the experience: a formal dinner in a restored 1920s dining car, an evening in Bar Car '3674' and a night in your own cabin, rather than a short flight and an airport. You step off in the heart of the city having already begun your holiday. Exact arrival station and timings are confirmed in your travel documents.
Five categories are offered: Historic Cabin, Suite - Double, Suite - Twin, Grand Suite and L'Observatoire. Each sits in a meticulously restored 1920s carriage and comes with steward service throughout the journey. Availability and the fare for each category on your chosen date are shown in the booking list on this page.
Both are Suites, offering more space and additional facilities than a Historic Cabin; the distinction is in the sleeping configuration, with a double arrangement in one and separate twin beds in the other. Which you choose is entirely down to preference, and the fare is shown against each on this page. Tell us which you would like and we will check availability for your date.
The fare includes one night on board, the table d'hote dining served in the restored dining cars, afternoon tea, a welcome beverage, on-board entertainment and steward service throughout the journey. Everything described as included in the itinerary is covered, so the on-board programme requires no further payment.
Travel to Paris and onward from Prague is not included, nor are hotels at either end, personal expenses, gratuities, travel insurance or anything not expressly listed in the itinerary. Items ordered outside the included dining programme are settled on board. We can quote separately for hotels and private transfers at either end.
Dinner is a table d'hote menu served in the restored 1920s dining cars, beginning after the train leaves Paris, and breakfast follows the next morning before arrival in Prague. Afternoon tea forms part of the included programme where your departure timings allow. Dietary requirements should be given to us when you book so the train can prepare in advance.
Bar Car '3674', named after the carriage's own number, is the social centre of the train, open before and after dinner with on-board entertainment and a place for guests to gather. On a one-night journey it is where the evening naturally settles once dinner is over. It is one of the most photographed carriages in Europe.
Departures currently on sale run from 19 August 2027 to 18 December 2027, with ten dates open at the time of writing. Each date and its fare by accommodation category appear in the booking list on this page. Prague is a strong draw in the later part of the year, so the December dates tend to go first.
Fares are quoted per person based on two people sharing a cabin or suite, and vary by category and departure date. Rather than publish a figure that may move, we show the exact fare for each departure in the booking list on this page and confirm the final amount in writing before any payment is taken.
Yes. A single occupancy fare is published and appears alongside the sharing fare on this page. Because a solo guest has the whole cabin or suite for the night, the single fare is higher than the per person sharing rate. Solo availability is limited on each departure, so contact us early.
A deposit of 15 percent of the booking value confirms your accommodation, and the balance is due 61 days before departure. Bookings made inside 61 days of departure are payable in full at the time of booking. Your written confirmation will set out the exact deposit, the balance and the date it falls due.
Child fares are based on age at the departure date, with bands of 0 to under 5 years and 5 to under 12 years; guests aged 12 and over pay the adult fare. The evening on board is formal in character and the night is short. Tell us the ages in your party when you enquire and we will confirm fares and accommodation options.
Travel to Paris is not included, so you may arrive by air or by rail as you prefer. We recommend arriving the day before rather than on the morning of departure so that nothing is rushed. The boarding station and time for your specific date are set out in the travel documents we send in advance, and we can arrange hotels and transfers in Paris.
The journey ends in Prague, and because onward travel is yours to arrange, most guests stay on for several nights to explore the old town, the castle district and the river. We can quote for hotels, private transfers and guiding in the city, or for onward rail or flights. Tell us how long you would like to stay and we will build it around the train.
Yes. Hotels are not part of this fare, but we arrange them regularly and can quote for stays in Paris before the train and Prague afterwards, along with transfers between hotel, station and airport. Handling both ends with the train booking keeps everything on one confirmation and one payment schedule.
Guests dress up on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express: the evening in the dining cars and Bar Car '3674' is formal in spirit, with smart, comfortable clothing by day. Cabins in restored 1920s carriages are elegant rather than large, so travel light and keep an overnight bag to hand. Detailed guidance arrives with your travel documents.
Travel insurance is not included and we strongly recommend comprehensive cover, including cancellation protection, from the moment you pay your deposit. France, the Czech Republic and the other countries the train crosses are within the Schengen area, so entry requirements depend on your nationality - check with the relevant consulate or embassy well before travelling.
