Everest, the highest point of the Himalayas, is in Nepal. The country is well endowed with perennial rivers and glacial lakes that originate in the Himalayas. The variety in Nepal's topography provides a home to wildlife such as tigers, rhinos, monkeys, bears, yaks, leopards and many different species of insects and birds. Nepal is home to almost 10 percent of the world's bird species, 500 of which can be found in the Kathmandu Valley.
