Your Itinerary

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND, 24 March 2018, Scottish bagpiper dressed in traditional red and black tartan dress stand before stone wall. Edinburgh, the most popular tourist city destination in Scotland.
Day 1

ABERDEEN & EDINBURGH

Depart early afternoon. The train heads north, crossing the splendid Forth Railway Bridge.

Disembark at Montrose to visit Pitmuies Garden near Forfar, one of the finest private gardens in Scotland. You have time to explore the gardens and walks and then enjoy a drink with your hosts, the Ogilvies, in their exquisite drawing room.

Return to the train in Montrose and enjoy pre-dinner drinks in the Observation Car. followed by dinner. as the train travels up the east coast through Aberdeen and into Speyside, Scotland's whisky region, before arriving in the market town of Keith to stable overnight.

Day 2

KYLE OF LOCHALSH & PLOCKTON

During a leisurely breakfast. the train makes its way to Inverness and north to Invergordon, where guests alight for a visit to the 18th-century Foulis Castle, seat of the Clan Munro. Mrs Munro of Foulis and her son, Hector, the Clan Chief, welcome you, after which you can explore the grounds and courtyard garden. Alternatively, join Hector in the drawing room for a whisky tasting.  Return to the train travel towards Kyle the Torridon  for lunch as you of Lochalsh past mountains.  Achnashellach forest and Loch Carron.

Disembark at Plockton for a visit to Attadale on the west coast, this magnificent estate boasts a Water Garden.

Day 3

KYLE OF LOCHALSH


Disembark after breakfast to drive across to the mystical Isle of Skye and the 2.000-acre Clan Donald estate. Return to the train in Kyle of Lochalsh and enjoy a leisurely lunch as you retrace part of yesterday's route as far as Dingwall.

This evening disembark to visit Ballindalloch Castle, one of Scotland's most romantic castles, with its wonderful walled gardens. Rejoin the train at Boat of Garten on the private Strathspey Railway.

Day 4

DUNDEE & KINGUSSIE & ROTHIEMURCHUS

A coach takes you to the Rothiemurchus Estate, where you can tour the parkland or enjoy some of the many outdoor activities on this breathtakingly beautiful site beneath the Cairngorm Mountains. Lunch is served on returning to the train in Kingussie. The journey then proceeds south on to Dunblane where you disembark for a late afternoon visit to your final garden on the itinerary, Kilbryde Castle and Gardens. Return to the train in Dundee for dinner and a final night on board.

Day 5

DUNDEE & EDINBURGH

Depart from Dundee in the morning and return to Edinburgh.

Passports and Visas

If you are not a UK citizen, you must have a valid passport that will remain valid beyond the duration of your journey. Depending on which country issues your passport, you may need a visa for entry into the UK. Please check with your travel agent or government agency before travelling to the UK.

Pets

For safety reasons, pets are not permitted on the train. However, if you are travelling with an assistance dog please contact reservations to discuss further.

Health

Please advise Belmond Royal Scotsman office or your travel agent of any health restrictions before travelling with us. No specific vaccinations are required for entry into the UK. It is advised, however, that you consult your doctor or physician for requirements based on your travel itinerary, or for any personal health recommendations relating to your journey. Please note that there are no professional medical facilities on Belmond Royal Scotsman.

Smoking Policy

In accordance with Scottish Law, smoking is not permitted on board.

Check-In Procedure

The train departs from Edinburgh Waverley Station. Check-in is at least 40 minutes prior to departure at The Balmoral Hotel, after which our Host and Crewmembers will escort you and your luggage onto the train.

Luggage and Storage On Board

Cabins have limited space, therefore we recommend each guest travels with one suitcase and one carry-on bag. Twin State Cabins have storage space under each bed measuring 71cm x 23cm. If necessary, facilities are available at The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh for luggage storage during your journey. If you are staying at another hotel, please ask the Hotel Manager. Prior to boarding, please attach a Belmond The Royal Scotsman luggage label/tag to each piece of your luggage.

What to Wear

For daytime excursions and relaxing on board, we recommend casual, comfortable clothing. In the evening we recommend a jacket and tie for informal dinners and black tie/tuxedo or kilt for formal dinners.

Electricity

There are electrical outlets in all cabins. Electricity in the UK runs on 220/240 volts. You may wish to bring an adaptor for electrical appliances.
