If you love rural tourism, adventure tourism and nature, this is the ideal spot for your fantasy vacation. You can hike a number of different trails, including one that descends from Áliva viewpoint and the route up Horcados Rojos, an amazing vertical wall measuring almost 300 meters on the way up to the Cabaña Verónica mountain shelter. A visit to one of the small local mountain villages will transport you into a fairytale postcard. Mogroviejo, just over 15 minutes away by car, is a lovely rural village which has been declared a Historical Site. It retains the charm of the passage of time in structures such as a late 12th-century tower and Santo Toribio Monastery. You also won't want to miss Potes, the capital of the Liébana district, or its Infantado Tower and the delightful Barrio Viejo (Old Quarter).

In the midst of the imposing verticality and idyllic scenery of the mountains of Picos de Europa National Park stands the Parador de Fuente Dé, located near this small town's famous cableway. The Parador is a gateway to magical forests, mountain slopes and scenic overlooks that make up a natural paradise of incomparable beauty. This modern mountain hotel is located in the district of Liébana, at the base of the cableway that climbs up to Áliva viewpoint. The Parador is located at the end of the road from Potes to Fuente Dé. From Santander, which is 135 km away, take the A-8 towards Unquera. From Unquera, take the N-621 in the direction of Potes-Picos de Europa via the Desfiladero de la Hermida (La Hermida Gorge) to Potes and Fuente Dé.
