The Silver Route has been the natural route linking the Bay of Biscay with the Andalusian Atlantic coastline from olden times. Romans took advantage to build a road to transport precious silver, leaving behind the base of a major legacy taking you through history.

Day 1. Start Parador for the Trail. Sunday (one night stay) (Zafra)

Enjoy a journey around one of the least known and most beautiful areas in the country with countless surprises in store! Zafra provides the opportunity to uncover the 13th-century Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria church, the Plaza Grande, Santa Catalina convent, Santa Clara convent, El Rosario convent and the Casa Grande of Zafra.

Day 2. Monday (one night stay) (Mérida)

Every step in Ermita Augusta harks to its splendid past when it was a flourishing and busy colony of the Roman Empire. A faithful reflection of this legacy is the National Museum of Roman Art, the Theatre, the Amphitheatre and the Roman Circus. Remember to take the time to visit the Amphitheatre Roman House, the Mithraeum, Santa Eulalia church site, the Roman Bridge over the Guadiana and Los Milagros Aqueduct. The Moors also left their mark in the area with their Arab Citadel, as did the Visigoths, whose art may be appreciated in the Visigoth Art Museum.

Day3 3 and 4. Tuesday and wednesday (two-night stay) (Trujillo)

Extremadura is magically encapsulated in this town. Trujillo is a land of discoverers and opens out in the Plaza Mayor. Strolling through the streets, visitors come across the Dukes of San Carlos Palace, the Marquesses of La Conquista Palace and the Marquess of Sufraga Palace. The old Castle tells of bygone tales, as does the Pizarro House Museum. Religious monuments also play an important role in town such as San Martín church, Santa María La Mayor church and the convents of Santa Clara and San Francisco Real.

Day 5. Thursday (one night stay) (Jarandilla de la Vera)

The unequalled and monumentally beautiful Parador of Jarandilla is the starting point to explore places such as the Monastery of Yuste, where the Emperor Carlos V spent his last days. A visit to natural beauty spots such as La Garganta de la Olla gorge is well worth it. Other recommended excursions include the towns in the county of La Vera, with Valverde and Villanueva being special highlights.

Days 6 and 7. Friday and Saturday (two-night stay) (Plasencia)

Plasencia is the last stage on our route along this section of La Ruta de Plata and a true gift for those last hours in Extremadura to enjoy visits to places such as the New and Old Cathedrals. The area surrounding the Cathedrals houses beautiful spots such as the bustling Plaza Mayor, the Bishop's Palace, the Palaces of the Marquesses of Mirabel, Carvajal-Girón, Las Torres and the convent of San Vicente Ferrer.
