Day 1. Start Parador for the Trail. Sunday (one night stay)
(Limpias)
The town is home to the parish church of San Pedro. There are also many interesting towns such as Laredo, Castrourdiales and Santoña in the surrounding areas. In addition, the presence of nature herself on the journey is a highlight with trips to the Cabárceno Nature Reserve and Ansón Valley. Other fascinating spots to discover are Santander and Bilbao with the Guggenheim Museum.
Santillana is a real treat for visitors in itself. Its streets, palaces and large houses, Santa Juliana Collegiate Church and museums such the Regina Coello Religious Art are waiting to be discovered by you. The Altamira Neo-Cave and its museum explaining our past are also well worth a visit. Further recommended visits include Comillas, Santander and Cabárceno Nature Reserve. El Soplao Cave and towns such as San Vicente de la Barquera are a must-see en route to Asturias.
Day 3. Tuesday (one night stay)
(Fuente Dé)
The traditional coastal route to Liébana started in the San Vicente de la Barquera area and approached via the Nansa Basin and Lamasón Valley. There were two diversions from here - the first via Collado de Pasaneu to Bedoya Valley and the second via Collado de Arceón to Lebeña. Both routes met at Castro and followed the course of the River Deva to Potes. The gothic Santo Toribio de Liébana church is the most important religious building in the valley, where the Lignim Crucis - the largest surviving piece of the cross of Christ - is venerated. Potes, Santa María de Lebeña and San Tirso chapel are also worth visiting.
