A route to the historical and natural legacy of Extremadura
Day 1. Sunday (one night stay)
(Cáceres)
Arriving in this town, one senses that this is an unrepeatable town. An unique architectonic and urban setting, configured, among other buildings and monuments, by the Roman City Wall (1st century), the Arab City Wall (12th century), the Bujaco Tower, the Bishop's Palace (5th century), the Palaces of Mayorazgo, La Generala and the Golfines de Arriba, or the seigniorial mansions like the Casa de los Becerra, Casa del Mono and Casa de Carvajal. One should not miss visiting also the Co-Cathedral of Sta. María. Your visit to this town will be unrepeatable.
Day 2. Monday (one night stay)
(Plasencia)
Plasencia is a gift of the Extremadura, a precious gift to enjoy it, visiting spots like the New and the Old Cathedral. The surrounding areas of the cathedrals offer beautiful corners and spots. The Plaza Mayor (Main Square) with its vivid life, the Bishop's Palace, the Palaces of the Marqueses de Mirabel, of Carvajal-Girón, and Las Torres, and the Convent of San Vicente Ferrer are other spots of special interest in town. If you have the chance, do not miss visiting the Monfragüe National Park, with a high-value natural legacy.
The Parador of Jarandilla, of unrepeatable monumentality and beauty, is a very special start to know places like the Yuste Monastery, where Emperor Charles V spent his last days. It is also interesting visiting natural areas, like the 'Garganta de la Olla' (La Olla Canyon). Another recommendable visit is the one the ' Pueblos de la Vera' (Vera Villages), among which Valverde and Villanueva stand out.
