This itinerary follows the footprints of the national hero "El Campeador" in the book "Cantar del Mío Cid" through these splendid areas full of history and unique landscapes.
Day 1. Sunday (one night stay)
(Lerma)
This Route is homage to the best Spanish books of the medieval literature and of the Europe's classic. The book includes in its title the name of its main hero: "El Cantar del Mío Cid". This book was composed at the end of the XII century or the first decades of the XIII century. Lerma is a beautiful village in the province of Burgos, the province in which El Cid was born. In the village of Lerma, we recommend visiting the Duke's Palace, where the Parador is located in, the Plaza Mayor (Main Square), the ex-Collegiate Church of San Pedro, the Sta. Clara Square and many more spots. In the village, the visitor will find many convents; in some of these convents, exquisite sweet cakes are prepared and sold to the visitor. Visitors should also not forget dining the good lamb "Castillian style" with fine Arlanza wine.
Days 2 and 3. Monday and Tuesday (two-night stay) cada día)
(Soria)
Once in Soria, visitors should not miss visiting the two cultural references of this town: San Polo and San Saturio, with its elms on the side of the river. The nearby villages - Almarza, Narros, Golmayo or Arnacón - are disseminated in the surroundings of the town, and preserve their rural image. In Garray, in approximately 15 km distance from Soria, you will find the ruins of "Numancia", with an archaeological centre. It is also worth visiting Burgo de Osma and the Natural Park of the Lobos River. On the trip from Soria to Olite, you will have the chance to visit the Royal Monastery of Veruela, which in the future will become a Parador; this is a monastery of the Cistercians monks of great beauty, at the feet of the Moncayo Natural Park. The monastery was founded in 1145.
Day 4. Wednesday (one night stay)
(Sigüenza)
At their arrival at town, visitors will probably be surprised by the beauty the town is offering, an unrepeatable urban complex, presided by the castle, in which the Parador is located. In this town, we may find interesting spots, like the cathedral, the Main Square, the "Casa Del Doncel", the façade of the Clarisas de Santiago, the church of San Vicente or the parochial church of Sta. María. Squares and streets to discover and to get acquainted with for a marvellous trip into history and the past, but also a village to say goodbye in a very special way to this route through the land of Don Quixote and Sancho.
Days 6 and 7. Friday and Saturday (two-night stay)
(Teruel)
Talking about the city of Teruel is talking about the "Mudéjar"- style, a beautiful cultural and monumental legacy which has survived long centuries. It is also talking about the "Lovers of Teruel" (Amantes de Teruel). The "Mudéjar" - style of Teruel comes from the Islamic tradition of Aragón. We want to point out the tower of the cathedral, the tower of San Pedro, the tower of San Martin, the tower of San Salvador and the tower of La Merced...You should also not miss the beautiful ceiling of the cathedral, of great beauty and harmony. For all of these monuments, the "Mudéjar" - style monuments of Teruel, which reflect the Spanish "Mudéjar", have been declared by the UNESCO World Heritage. In Teruel, there are many more sites to visit, like the theme park Dinópolis, dedicated to dinosaurs. (The park does not open all the year; please consult opening dates and hours at the reception desk). This park is very attractive both for adults and for kids. Also worth visiting is the mausoleum of the "Amantes de Teruel".
